Internet Safety

We help our students learn to become safe and responsible digital citizens. We filter all access to the Internet through our network. Students using our digital resources, including Internet access, must agree to follow district and school rules.

Many lessons about Internet safety are taught by our teacher librarians, classroom teachers or both. Please talk with them for more details about how we teach Internet safety.

Filtering

To help keep your child safer and more scholarly online, we have adopted services provided by GoGuardian. GoGuardian operates while students are logged into Chrome or a Chromebook with his/her school email address. GoGuardian’s multi-layered internet content filtering helps to protect students from inappropriate and explicit content.

Elementary

We help our students build a foundation for Internet safety starting in elementary school. We talk about keeping personal information private online. We urge them to talk with a trusted adult and alert them about suspicious online behavior. We also cover safe surfing , avoiding computer viruses and other malware. In addition, we begin to talk about cyber bullying and harassment.

Secondary

In middle school and high school, our Internet safety lessons become more in-depth. We talk more about cyber bullying and harassment, social networking, appropriate online behavior and appropriate texting. We also cover intellectual property, copyrights and plagiarism.
