Celebrating AANHPI Heritage Month
Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month
Posted on 05/01/2023

Central Kitsap Schools celebrates AANHPI Heritage Month in May, a celebration of Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders in the United States. May was chosen by the federal government to commemorate the immigration of the first Japanese person to the United States on May 7, 1843, and to mark the anniversary of the completion of the transcontinental railroad on May 10, 1869, since the majority of the workers who laid the tracks were Chinese immigrants.

In May, we highlight some of the countless contributions, dynamic cultures, and rich heritage of Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders that enrich and strengthen not only our country as a whole but also our local schools and community.
