Experienced Leader Returns to CKSD School Board
Mark Gaines appointed to temporarily fill Director District 2 seat
Posted on 05/27/2025

After interviewing
three candidates this morning, the board voted to appoint Mark Gaines to the vacant Director District 2 position. He will be officially seated and sworn in during tomorrow night’s school board meeting. This seat will appear on the November 4, 2025, ballot, when voters will elect a director to serve the remainder of the term, which runs through November 2027.
This role is not new to Mr. Gaines, who previously served on our board from 2009 to 2015. A longtime Central Kitsap resident, he is the State Design Engineer for the Washington State Department of Transportation and has a strong background in civil engineering, leadership, and community service. He and his wife, Kelly, have been actively involved in our schools for many years. They have four children—three CKSD graduates, and one current student.
Mr. Gaines is eager to bring his experience and dedication back to CK Schools, working to ensure that every student has the opportunity to succeed. We are grateful for his willingness to serve once again!
