About

Thanks to the Central Kitsap community, we will replace Central Kitsap Middle and Central Kitsap High. CKHS was built in 1942. CKMS was built in 1959. The replacement will add permanent classroom space to get students out of portables. State-of-the-art lab and career and technical areas will allow students to use materials and build skills for tomorrow’s careers. Clear sightlines and secure entryways will improve safety and security. The project will ease traffic jams around the campus.

The two schools will be side-by-side in the center of the existing campus. Each school will operate independently with separate entries, commons and classrooms. They will share some resources, such as a kitchen and career and technical labs.

Why It's Needed

The original CK High was built in 1942. The original portion of Central Kitsap Middle School was built in 1959 and now most major systems, from plumbing to electrical, need to be replaced.  Among the buildings' deficiencies are:

Modern Learning Needs
To build 21st century skills, students today need modern science and engineering labs. They need the electrical systems that can support their technology needs.

High School Space

From portables to a loading dock converted into a classroom, students and supplies fill all available spaces in the current CK High school.

Building Conditions
Most major school systems, from heating to plumbing, were built to last 20 to 30 years. Major systems in both buildings need to be upgraded or replaced. Seismic upgrades are also needed to make the buildings safer.

Traffic
Silverdale has grown. More people live between Silverdale and Seabeck and travel on Anderson Hill Road past the school. When school starts and ends, it is difficult for cars and buses to get through.

Parking
Students and parents often cannot find parking when needed. A wait list for parking permits is long. The former parking lot was the best available location for portables to address classroom needs.
