Capital Projects Update: May 2019

The end of the school year is fast approaching! At this time just three years ago, architects were still developing designs for our major projects. In a few short months, we’ll complete the biggest of the projects we’ve promised to our students, staff and community.

But our work isn’t done yet! Design and planning for several other projects is underway, which you’ll see below. And critical repairs will continue throughout our district.

Central Kitsap High

Status: Demolition of the old CK Middle is nearly complete. Renovation of the old CKMS gym continues.

What’s next: The move to the new CK High will begin. A ceremony celebrating CK High’s history will happen at noon on June 20.

Klahowya Secondary

Model of art installation

Status: Production begins on a two-story, mosaic art piece that will be installed this summer near the student and staff entrance. The addition construction funds the piece through the state’s Art in Public Places Program.

What’s Next: Ramps for the grandstands will be installed. 

Building 900

Status: Architects are developing the schematic design floor plans to remodel the 900 building of the current CK High (the wing on the east side of the school). The project, a partnership with Kitsap Regional Library, will house both the Silverdale branch of KRL and CK Schools administration.

What’s Next: Floor plans will be submitted to the school board for approval.

Safety & Security 

Sign at Cougar Valley

Status: Our final phase of security improvements started at Cottonwood and Cougar Valley.

What’s Next: Work remains underway at six schools.  

Olympic High (Phase 2)

Status: Architects have been working on design options to improve the remaining two buildings at Olympic High School. The work will update classrooms and modernize gyms and locker rooms.

 

What’s Next: Continued discussion of best options for the OHS campus.

Ridgetop

Status: The school board has approved floor plans for a 245-seat theater on Ridgetop’s campus. The proposed theater is under development in partnership with Central Stage Theatre.

What’s next: Architects will develop more detailed plans for the building, including engineering, materials and finishes.
