Olympic High School’s new core will open in two phases beginning this fall.
When next school year starts, OHS will open with more classrooms, a new kitchen and commons space. Construction on the auditorium, library, main entrance, a portion of the commons and remaining classrooms will finish by winter break.
Until construction on the core is complete, students and families will continue to use the temporary entrance, across from the new pedestrian bridge.
When both phases open, more than 90,000 square feet of our classrooms and core will be new or remodeled for students. We’re particularly excited about the modern career and technical classrooms and labs, such as the robotics and manufacturing labs that will open when school starts.
Need for Phased Opening
We started the project with an aggressive timeline. As we researched and surveyed families and staff, it became apparent that additional work could benefit the educational environment at OHS.
Then, in early 2017, the state granted additional funding, which allowed us to double the size of the project. We were able to include work on more classrooms, replace the auditorium, and updated the kitchen.
Our general contractor, Korsmo, is delivering on the original scope of work and has been working with us on the timeline for the additional projects. We finalized that timeline in late May, allowing us to share which areas we could open.
Safety walls will seal off areas still under construction.
We appreciate how flexible and patient our staff and students have been during construction. We also appreciate the community support that makes this project possible.
