The construction project at Klahowya is moving into the next major phase.
On Wednesday, the school board approved the schematic design for the addition to Klahowya. The addition adds a new gym, music room and classrooms.
The board first reviewed sketches and floor plans in early June.
In the next phase of the project, architects will refine the designs and add technical details. Once the final design is approved, the district will request proposals from contractors.
Construction is expected to start 2017 and finish in 2018.
Klahowya's addition will be the first major construction project made possible with the community's support of a bond measure in February. Modernization at Olympic High and replacement of Central Kitsap High and Middle schools will follow.
In addition, the district has begun making safety improvements and critical repairs at other schools.
