Central Kitsap High & Middle Replacement Groundbreaking
Celebrating a New Start for CK High and Middle

Shovels turn for the groundbreaking.

On Friday, more than 2,000 students, staff and community members gathered to celebrate the construction of the new Central Kitsap High and Central Kitsap Middle schools.

Work has quickly progressed since its start this summer. Land has been cleared between CK High’s Huey Field and the CKMS football field. Foundation work begins this fall.

The schools “represent our community’s belief in you,” Superintendent David McVicker told the crowd of students. “Your community knows you deserve the very best, and they want that for you. They care about your future.”

When construction finishes in fall 2019, students will have a three-story, 313,000 square-foot building for both schools. The old CKMS gym will be refreshed. And student athletes will have new tennis courts, athletic fields and tracks, including a new synthetic turf football/soccer field with lights, a scoreboard and seating.

CK High has a nearly 90-year history. But “this is not the end of an era. This is the beginning of a new Cougar Nation,” said CKHS junior Ania Briggs. She, senior Tatyana Emery, sophomore Kyle Zeng and freshman Connor Huey all spoke at the ceremony.

When picturing the future schools, McVicker said, “I see memories waiting to be made. Futures shaped. Friendships that last a lifetime. These things are all ahead.

“And I couldn’t be more excited for you!”
